Project Reports:
Texas Heritage Living History Day is Friday, September 27, 9-3 in Louise Hays Park in Kerrville. Free. Sponsored by local business donations, foundation grants, individual contributions. Open to the world -- teachers and students take advantage of this opportunity to learn using stories and songs. We have added a possible Thursday night reception for artists. We have added a seminar for papers and presentations of Texas heritage on Saturday. We have added a fundraiser on Sunday: "Literacy and Learning Concert" featuring
Terri Hendrix and Lloyd Maines. Tickets are $15 each. Proceeds benefit Families and Literacy and the Texas Heritage Music Foundation. 3:00 p.m. in Dietert Auditorium on the Schreiner University campus in Kerrville. Seating limited. We still need sponsors to help fund the educational event. We are inviting businesses to buy blocks of seats at the concert and give the tickets up for donation to families and students to enjoy as well. Become a patron by buying ten or more tickets.

Texas Music Coffeehouse Series begins on Wednesday, September 5, at Schreiner University. We will feature a tribute to Jimmie Rodgers (with a song by Schreiner president Tim Summerlin), a story by Tony Navarra as Jimmie, and a tribute to songwriters, featuring Cindy Terry, Tim Steele, Eric Gerber (if he's not delivering a baby).

Wayne Kennemer Scholarship Fund: We gave the 2001 grant to Michael Wedgworth from Medina. Ariel Allenkamp is the 2002 recipient, an award-winning member of the Comfort band. Both students wrote compelling essays and demonstrated need. We have not had a fundraiser for the grant since the Willie Nelson/Little Joe y La Familia concert in 1997. We will apply part of the proceeds from the
Terri Hendrix and Lloyd Maines concert on September 29, 2002, to this fund.

Membership: We need a volunteer to coordinate the membership program. Since we don't send out reminders, we don't get the $20 renewal. And this office needs some operating money even if 5K Laser is donating the office space.

Staff: Andrea LeBlanc worked on the educational project. Jeff Seaton is working two hours each morning in the office. Tim Wilton is working on grants (only 3 hours/week). Kathleen Hudson is still the volunteer director. The new board of directors is as follows: Eric Gerber, Jack Fields, Janice Kennemer (scholarship committee), John Krause, Sandy Wolfmueller, Ziggy Scharton, Randy Scroggins, Tony Navarra, Mike Walker, Ron and Candace Jackson, Gary P. Nunn and Blake Holloway.

Our ongoing sponsors include 5 K Laser, AC Print, Glaze Designs, Maverick Internet, Family Sports Center, Kerr Business Services, Wolfmueller's Books and Records, Peterson Foundation, Schreiner University, and many local businesses.

About the Director:
Kathleen Hudson is starting her second book on Texas music, Women's Voices in Texas Music, for University of Texas Press. She continues to present papers at educational conferences, teach full-time at Schreiner University, direct the freshman experience, lead travel courses to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and present programs for various service groups.

Another Texas music moment,
Kathleen Hudson
